A Light Oak Dressing Table By Brynmawr Furniture Makers Ltd - c.1920

A Welsh Brynmawr light oak dressing table, of inverted breakfront from with a full length central mirror above a single drawer, flanked by a pair of graduated four drawer pedestals, with carved tapered square handles neatly held in place with carved pegs.

Brynmawr Furniture Makers Ltd was a furniture manufacturing company set up in the midst of the Great Depression in the United Kingdom as part of the Brynmawr Experiment in Brynmawr, Wales.

Following the General Strike in 1926, Brynmawr had been particularly badly affected and was left with high levels of unemployment. Brynmawr Furniture Makers factory was set up as part of Quaker-led effort to tackle the issues starting in 1929. It was known for well-made utilitarian designs but closed in 1940.

This finely constructed, hand made piece of furniture is a good example of the simplicity and fine craftsmanship that epitomises this style.

Condition:

In good condition with some old surface marks from use, but overall in good condition and ready to go.

180 cm high x 111 cm wide x 53 cm deep
